What they couldn’t do yesterday, they did today.
The Anacortes Seahawks overcame a 15-point first half deficit, and edged the Columbia River Rapids, 67-63, to capture third place in the 2026 2A State Basketball Tournament, Saturday, at the Yakima Valley SunDome.
The Seahawks never had the lead until senior guard Gunner Willoughby hit a 3-point shot from the right wing with 3:45 to play in the game. A few seconds later, senior guard Luca Moore scored on a put back, to give the Seahawks a 63-60 lead.
With 3:00 to go, the Seahawks had a 65-63 lead and had three chances on the possession thanks to two offensive rebounds. They milked time off the clock in between but ended up turning the ball over to the Rapids with 1:15 left.
But the Rapids could not score and had to foul three times to get senior forward Micah Dickison on the free throw line with 19 seconds left. He made the second of two free throws to inch the lead out to three points, 66-63.
The Rapids ran a play that set up a 3-point shot from the right corner, but the ball swirled the rim and spun out. Lucas Roberts rebounded the miss and was fouled with four seconds left.
He hit the first of two free throws to secure the all-important four-point lead. The Rapids could not get a shot off before time expired.
The Rapids starters include five seniors and have nine on the roster. In their three games prior to this, most of the starters played every minute with very few minutes from reserves. That may have played a hand in this game, as the Rapids made 16-26 free throws for the game. They were 9-10 in the first half and 7-16 in the second half.
The Seahawks had similar troubles as they made 9-11 free throws in the first half and 4-11 in the second half.

Dickison finishes his stellar career at Anacortes with 26 points, hitting 10-16 from the field. Junior guard Lucas Roberts was the only other double-figures scorer with 11.
The Rapids finish the season with a 6th place trophy and a 20-9 record, far better then their #11 seeding.
The Seahawks come in as the 6th seed, and take home 3rd place, their first state trophy since 2017.
