The only thing equal to Mount Vernon’s offense, was its defense, in the Bulldogs 73-44 win at Sehome, Wednesday night.
Behind the shooting of senior Quinn Swanson and junior Xavier Neyens, the Bulldogs used an 11-0 run to take a 21-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Bulldogs defense allowed the Mariners only a single field goal and four total points. At the same time, Swanson was busy filling the scorebook with 12 points, on his way to 20 for the half, and a 36-13 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, the Bulldogs racked up 27 points behind the five combined 3-point shots by Neyens and junior guard Baron Dorsey.
The Mariners attacked the offensive end much better in the second half, led by senior forward Austin McKay, who scored 11 of his team-high 13 points. Sophomore guard Nolan Wright also scored eight of his ten points in the second half.
Swanson totaled 26 points on the night, while Bulldog junior guard Michael Johnson scored 14, and Neyens finished with 13.
The Bulldogs improved to 11-2 on the season. They are 7-1 in the NWC, just one game back of the leaders, and play at Oak Harbor on Friday.
The Mariners fell to 5-3 in the NWC, and 8-5 on the season. They will play at Sedro-Woolley, Saturday, at 230pm.
